Welcome, Spring—and Happy Earth Day! 1

January marks the beginning of not only a new calendar year but also the opportunity for setting personal goals. Perhaps you’ve resolved to exercise more regularly, take up a new hobby or volunteer at the local animal shelter.

Whatever your goals may be, we hope the people, places, recipes, and tips and tricks in this issue will inspire you to focus on wellness in the new year. And while diet and exercise are vital to your physical health, overall wellness includes your mental health as well. The folks at Shield Bearer do such great work counseling those in the community who are struggling, and you’ll read about all they do in this issue.

I was so excited to catch up with former Olympian Jonathan Horton. You’ll find out what he’s been up to lately, and it’s obvious there is no slowing him down. Also, read on to discover three local gyms offering unique ways to get you moving. And we asked local experts for some of their favorite healthy recipes, books, workout routines and so much more.

On a side note, you’ll remember I mentioned finding brother, Bill. He and his family did come for Thanksgiving, and we had a big gathering of family to meet him. The picture above is of our whole group on Thanksgiving Day! All 20 of us!
