Local Pilot Places First at Reno National Championship Air Races
Michael Steiger, a second-generation Delta Airlines captain and former member of the Air National Guard, won first place in the Jet Gold Heat of the Reno National Championship Air Races in September. The air races, labeled the fastest motor sport on the planet, draw aviation fans from all over the country.
Michael started out volunteering as a crew member for other racers and is now in charge of training new jet pilots at the annual Pylon Racing School. Michael was also just elected class president for Racing Jets, Inc.
Cy-Woods FFA Horse Judging Team Wins 2018 Texas Horse Cup
The Cypress Woods High School FFA Horse Judging Team—junior Catherine Halaska, senior Brianna Morton and class of 2018 graduates Brianna Kilcommins and Madison Wessling—was awarded the 2018 Texas Horse Cup this summer by HorseJudging.com.
Also known as Horse Evaluation, the event allows students’ insight into equine science by evaluating and ranking horses based on breed characteristics, conformation and performance.
CFISD Police Department Adds K-9s to the Department
As part of the school district’s efforts to enhance safety and security, the CFISD police department welcomed three police dogs or K-9s. They love to play, eat treats and be loved just like any other dogs, and the officers give them extra attention and care so they can be healthy and alert members of the police department.
Two of the K-9s, Jumper and Diego, are trained to detect illegal substances and will make routine sweeps of middle and high school parking lots, hallways and classrooms throughout the year.

CFISD honored 10 community members who made major contributions to enhance the educational experiences of district students.
