Cypress Fourth-Grader Wins at Modeling Competition

Rennell fourth-grader Cameron Lee recently participated in the International Modeling and Talent Association competition in New York. He was among 500-plus competitors and competed in four runways, a TV commercial and commercial print categories. Cameron was awarded five honorable mentions and was also one of the nominees for Pre-Teen Model of the Year.

Langham Creek HS Quarterback among 2018 UIL Preseason Football Honorees

Langham Creek High School senior Chris Herron was among the standout football players named to and honored as a part of the Touchdown Club of Houston 2018 UIL High School Preseason Football Team on Aug. 17 at the organization’s Touchdown of the Year event at the JW Marriott.

Chris, a senior quarterback for the Lobos, was among the 29 football players selected to the preseason team, which the Touchdown Club constructs through film study, recommendations, recruiting rankings and preseason publications.

Each player honored by the Touchdown Club was presented with a plaque commemorating the distinction and congratulated by Pro Football Hall of Famers Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene, who helped lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl championships in the 1970s.

Inspiring HANDS Announces Date for Fundraising Gala

Inspiring HANDS, Inc., an all-volunteer, charitable organization will have its annual gala, Come Together – Flash Back to the ’80s, on Nov. 3, from 6-11 p.m. at the Sterling Country Club in Stone Gate. All proceeds will fund scholarships to individuals of all ages with special needs who need financial assistance. Scholarships offset tuition costs for them to attend nonprofit summer camps and equestrian centers in Texas that focus on cultivating skills needed for success, accomplished through therapeutic supports and adaptive recreation. Cy Ranch HS Baseball Standouts Compete in All-American Showcases

Cypress Ranch High School rising seniors Matt Thompson and J.J. Goss were honored as being among the top-rated baseball players in the nation for the class of 2019, as the two right-handed pitchers participated in All-American showcase games in July.

Matt participated in the Under Armour All-American Baseball Game on July 20 at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. Playing for the American team, he pitched the fifth inning recording two groundouts and one strikeout. The American staff struck out 14 in the 8-2 win.

He was joined by J.J. at the 16th Annual Perfect Game All-American Classic on Aug. 12 at San Diego’s Petco Park. J.J. took the mound in the fifth inning for the West team and recorded a 1-2-3 frame with one strikeout.

Matt—also on the West team—pitched the sixth inning and struck out two batters. He was the game’s winning pitcher as the West broke a tie in the bottom of the sixth on the way to its 4-2 win. Ten West pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts in the two-hit performance.

Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department Looking for New Recruits

The Cy-Fail Volunteer Fire Department opened its 13th fire station in Bridgeland and is looking for new recruits. Volunteers make up the main workforce with paid firefighters filling in when needed. Volunteers can serve as firefighters or support staff, and training and equipment will be provided. All who are interested must pass a background check and complete the 27-week training program.
